Do What to the Eggs?

A while back I went to a chain restaurant (that will remain nameless) with my family. We had eaten there before and although the food was of varying standards we ending up there again through sheer convenience.

Now, to provide a bit of background, at the time I had this thing for Eggs Benedict. Something about those soft poached eggs with lashings of eggy hollandaise sauce, ham or bacon on an English Muffin just did it for me. I would have it whenever I saw it on the menu, regardless of the time of day.

So back to the chain restaurant… I was excited to see that they had added Eggs Benedict to their menu, my meal settled in Nano seconds!

The waiter comes, I give him my order and move quickly on to my daughters when I realise he is talking to me, something about my order…confused I ask him to repeat his query.

Him: ‘Would you like the eggs fried or scrambled?’

Me: thinking he had confused my order ‘No I wanted Eggs Benedict’

Him: with towering patience ‘Yes…Fried or scrambled?’

Me: Totally bewildered ‘Umm, no, Eggs Benedict is poached eggs’

Him: exasperated ‘We don’t do poached eggs, only fried or scrambled’

Me: ‘I’ll have the pancakes’
