This is the inside of my pantry door. This is by far my most favourite home improvement that we have made since moving in here. These little baskets hold things that I need the family to access easily and put away properly. They also hold (most of) my herbs and spices. I am a huge fan of herbs and spices and almost everything you see there is regularly used in one thing or another (I have another 2 baskets full of them on the shelf, it may be an addiction).
The little baggy is a spice and herb mix pomander bag that I whipped up when we moved in. The house smelt weird to me, like it wasn’t yet mine, so I scattered these all through the house to give it a more ‘my house’ smell. Some, like this one, are still there, hanging off of door knobs and hooks about the place, although most of them have made their way into the linen press to keep silver fish away from my sheets.
I also had an open container of coffee beans in my pantry for a few weeks just to make it smell better. I found it really weird that even after a thorough cleaning and a wipe out with a vanilla scent, the whole house still smelt odd to me for about three weeks.
Finally now, after almost 6 months, I don’t walk into the house after being out and wrinkle my nose. Not that it smelt bad, it just didn’t smell right, it didn’t smell like my house. Now it does and my pantry is organised to my satisfaction so it really feels like home. What with that and the rain outside just begging me to make comforting, spicy, meaty meals and to bake delicious, sweet gooey things for afters, I am just in heaven.
